On what people remember….

My Thoughts:  You know those moments when a memory pops into your mind and you feel the same way you did for a moment as you did when the memory originally took place?  The way you felt after your first kiss. When a friend said something really hurtful. When someone you admired complimented you. Those types of memories are called emotional memories.

We are often so consumed by the things in our own lives we don’t really think about how our actions affect other people. While you may forget that joke you made about your friends weight 10 minutes later, she will probably remember the negative emotions it made her feel whenever she’s around you for a long time.

When you berate that intern at your company or make them feel stupid, that’s the what will come to mind when they are asked about their experience with you.

The same goes for positive emotions. When your little sister is feeling left out, ignored or alone she will remember the time you made her feel important.

The point is you can have the best intentions in the world but if your delivery is wrong people will remember you with a negative point of view. Remember that other people have feelings too.
