Every so often I like to do a post of all the things I’ve been loving lately. Just to see what you all are watching, reading, snacking on, etc. and to see if I can interest you in any of the things that I’ve been enjoying. I have made a point to limit the educational content I’m consuming this summer and have really been letting myself experience content just for entertainment in July. Here are the things I’ve been loving lately.
Things I Can’t Get Enough of Lately V
Claws
I don’t exactly remember when I saw the trailer to this show but I remember thinking that I had to check it out. Once I started watching it I was hooked. The thing that I think I love about the show so much besides the shocking twists and turns and hilarious dialogue, is this band of women who have each other’s backs. They are all a little different, they have their own struggles and identities but at the end of the day they are family and that’s what matters. Desna, played by Niecy Nash is truly an inspiration. As the matriarch of their makeshift family not only does, “Des” run the operations of the nail salon and other… not so legal operations, she takes care of her brother who is on the autism spectrum. Not everything Des does is on the up and up but she does what she has to do, which you can respect when watching her inner battles.
The Carmichael Show
So I debated adding this because right around the time I found myself falling back in love with the comedy, I found out that it wouldn’t be returning for the 4th season. The Carmichael show is based on an African American family living North Carolina. The star of the show Jerrod Carmichael approaches current events and social politics through comedy and brutal honesty. I started watching it half way through the first season and then lost track. Recently I caught up and remembered why I loved the show so much. It goes there, it talks about sexual consent, same sex marriage, the previous election, death with dignity and so much more. Not only does it tackle the important issues but it does so without being cut and dry. Very rarely does the show have every character take the same side of an argument. You hear the points both sides would make in the real world and you’re left to think about it.
Jana Ashton
Okay, we all get to have guilty pleasures sometimes and Jana Ashton has become mine. During an audible two for 1 one deal, I decided to give her book Wrong a chance. I ended up finishing it within 2 days (part of that did have to do with the fact that I had 12 hours of driving to do that weekend). I have since started my journey down the Jana Ashton series rabbit trail and am currently half way done with the second book in the series, Right and have already purchased the 3rd book, Trust.
Full disclosure these are romance novels so there is some serious adult content. I consider myself pretty comfortable with the risque but in one scene I was listening to while washing dishes, I felt a little embarrassed…keep in mind I was home alone. This is the true definition of a guilty pleasure novel. I spend so much time reading about business and personal development it’s fun to unplug with some unrealistic romance.
The Bold Type
I was so excited about this show when I first heard about it. For 3 reasons, Katie Stevens (known from MTV’s Faking It), Aisha Dee (from the gone too soon, Chasing Life) and just the premise as a whole. Once again it’s great to see a show where women are supporting each other and chasing their dreams. It’s only 3 episodes in and they have already tackled things like the female orgasm, cyber-harassment, dating in the workplace and more. It’s a fun show that makes you want to go out and make a change.
Friends From College
Okay, so this is the great Netflix curse. A show comes out Friday morning and by Saturday morning I am sitting there with a binge hangover because I watched the entire series. I loved this show. First, it has an amazing cast, as well as amazing guest stars. Secondly, it’s hilarious! There are subtle moments you just find yourself relating to and it’s nice. I really hope it gets a second season.

I did not see a single trailer for this until after I started watching it. As someone who goes to therapy and is a strong believer in its benefits, I was interested in this. I think it’s the first time I’ve seen a show that deals with a therapist and her patients lives simultaneously and shows how they can affect her and not just how she affects them (I’m sure it’s been done before but I haven’t seen it). That being said she definitely crossed the line in this but I find it interesting. It’s a very conscious reminder of how our actions have ripple effects for ourselves and others.
So there you have it. The things that have been keeping me busy this summer. What are you reading and watching this summer? Have you checked out any of these? Let me know in the comments.

I like Gypsy, it’s just so interesting. I love any show that gets into human habits.
Kendel @ Little Misadventures
I watched an episode of Claws and I LOVED it! I found it a bit *ahem* for public watching in the lounge, so I have to watch it in my bedroom! LOL.
Dia
It’s so good. Yeah it’s a little risky but something about it I just love.
Dia
Yes! It’s so good. I’m actually watching it right now! During the first episode I was pretty much like, screw this, “I’m moving to New York.”
