Sometimes people come into our lives and it seems like they have been tailor-made for you, to fit in your life one way or another. Sometimes we fall in love with the wrong person, believe a foe is a friend or just hold on when we should let go.
Love is a very complicated thing. Have you ever had a friend, loved one or just an acquaintance stay in a relationship with someone who treated them badly and you just couldn’t understand why? Ever know a super talented friend who stays at a horrible job they hate and won’t look for a new one? What about a friend who constantly complains about how badly another friend treats them? Chances are somewhere deep down they probably think that is as good as it gets and by putting up with that behavior just reestablishes the permission they give the other person to treat them that way.
They may say, “I don’t deserve this,” but until they actually walk away or stand up for themselves they don’t really believe they deserve better.
This is one of my favorite quotes. The first time I heard it was in the trailer for the film adaptation of The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I was dating this guy who was there when he wanted to be and never when I needed him to be. Hearing it was a huge slap in the face, I could cry and be angry at him but to a point I had to realize he made a choice to treat me badly and I had made a choice to let him and it was up to me to make the choice for it to stop.
I still have moments that I realize I’m not getting what I deserve in life; from men, from friends, from family or at work and then I realize that I do have some power to decide what I put up with.
Remember we all deserve the best!
Do it for love,
Dia
